As part of the Back British Game initiative, Eat Wild is asking the shooting community to Join in this January by hiring their local village hall, inviting locals, and introducing new people to game.
This January, Eat Wild, the development board for all wild meat, is calling for shoots and guns to come together to share their knowledge and educate local communities about the benefits of wild meat. Representatives can take birds in the feather to their village hall, invite anyone to join in, and teach them how to pluck, butcher, and serve a tasty curry, for example.
Eat Wild will supply you with recipe booklets and guides to help with the education and for newcomers to take away with them. To cover costs, shoots and guns could sell game, ask for donations, or team up with their local game dealer. Eat Wild can help you every step of the way.
Louisa Clutterbuck, CEO of Eat Wild said “In response to Veganuary we would like to encourage any shoot in the country to educate the local villages on the benefits of game. We want people to be proactive and work together to ensure there is a market for our wild meat. I encourage everyone who backs British game to Join in this January and teach others about its many benefits. Hire your village hall, show villagers how to pluck, butcher and cook with the birds, introduce a friend to it, or ask your local pub, restaurant or supermarket why they might not have it on the menu. Through education, we can all help drive the game meat market and ensure a future for shooting.”

We are pleased to inform you that our local village pub “ The Layer Fox” Layer de la Haye Essex ,has taken 36 partridge and pheasants every week for the past 4 weeks including this week and are now serving for the first time starters and main courses of whole partridge , pheasant breasts and game pie, much to the delight of their customers. Creative Chef Liam and Pub manager Annie Black have really got behind British locally sourced game , and should be congratulated in giving it a go.
